On 11 October, Brussels hosted the well-attended conference 'The missing link: regulating development of unmanned systems'. This conference was part of the annual European week of regions and cities. Enschede, together with the province of Overijssel and Nokia, organised the event on drone regulations.
A diverse audience from throughout Europe listened to representatives from the drone industry as well as governments and knowledge institutes discuss this topic. The goal was to raise European and national policymakers' level of knowledge and awareness about the importance of an equal European playing field for the use and testing of unmanned systems. This passionate call laid the foundation for a manifesto supplemented with input from the conference and later presented to the European Commission. This was also a great opportunity for Enschede to present itself on a European scale as a key player for this urgent and germane subject.
