Green and sustainable Enschede
Enschede aims to offer a safe, healthy and attractive environment to everyone who lives, works or visits the city. For people, animals and plants. Now and in the future. That’s why we are strongly committed to implement measures that limit global warming.
Action Plan Green
We have set the following objectives in the Action Plan Green and Sustainable Enschede.
- Climate neutrality
- Water resilience
- Biodiversity
- Becoming a circular city
Climate neutrality
Zero carbon emission in 2050 by transitioning from fossil fuel (natural gas or coal) to sustainable energy, like solar and wind energy. The goal is to increase the share of sustainable energy towards 2030 with a minimum of 8 percent. In 2050, households and companies don’t use gas anymore.
Water resilience
Building resistance to heavy down pours, heat and drought by connecting with natural systems, bringing back green and blue infrastructures and increasing water storage capacity.
Biodiversity
Making Enschede one big green park by:
- Treasuring the existing greenery
- Green design of urban space
- Focus on green in every construction or restructuring project
Becoming a circular city
Becoming a circular city through economic and smart use of raw materials, turning waste into raw materials, integrating circular principles in our public procurement and cooperating with our universities and entrepreneurs on circular design.
