Student registration
Are you going to study in Enschede and coming to live here from abroad for more than 4 months, then you have to register with the municipality. After registration you will receive your citizen service number.
Registering with the municipality
Registering with the municipality works as follows:
Central student registration
We have a central registration period for all students from August 24 to September 11 2026. Regarding this registration process you will receive information from your educational institution.
You can make an appointment with the provided link. During this appointment, you will receive your citizen service number.

Regular student registration
After September 11 2026, you can make an appointment via the link.

You will not receive any information about this registration from your educational institution. You will receive your citizen service number by regular mail after 5 working days.
Fill in the registration form student 2026. Print this and bring it to the appointment together with:
- A valid ID (not your residence card).
- A valid rental/purchase contract signed by you and the landlord.
- If you register at someone else's address, bring a written permission. Use the consent form for registration at address. Also bring a copy of a valid ID of the main resident.
You have lived in the Netherlands before
If you have lived in the Netherlands before, you already have a Citizen service number. You will still have to re-register with the municipality. Your citizen service number remains the same.
Residence permit
If you have Swiss or European Union or European Economic Area citizenship, you do not need a residence permit. If you have another nationality, contact your educational institution. They will arrange this for you.
